How it works

From your screen to a video in three steps

Nothing to install and no account to create. Open the page and start recording.

  1. 1

    Pick what to record

Your entire screen, or a single app like your code editor, design tool, or terminal.

  2. 2

    Record with your voice

A 3-second countdown gives you time to switch apps, and floating controls let you pause or stop from anywhere.

  3. 3

    Download your video

Watch it back right away, then save it to your computer. No upload and no waiting.

Features

Everything you need to show your work

Built for explaining real things on screen: code, designs, docs, and the bug you just found.

Your whole computer

Record everything on a display, from your code editor and terminal to slides and the browser.

Just one app

Share a single window so notifications and other apps stay out of the video.

Your voice and face

Narrate with your microphone and add your camera as a round bubble in the corner. System audio is included when your browser can share it.

Floating controls

A small timer with pause and stop floats above your other windows, so you never have to hunt for the tab.

Private by design

Recording happens in your browser and the video saves straight to your computer. It's never uploaded.

Free, with no catch

Ethical Tube is a nonprofit. There's no account, no fee, no watermark, and no limit on how many videos you record.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Ethical Tube really free?

Yes. Ethical Tube is a nonprofit with nothing to sell. Recording and downloading are free, with no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many videos you make.

Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?

No. Your video is recorded in your browser and saved straight to your computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I record my code editor or other desktop apps?

Yes. Choose Entire screen to capture everything on a display, or App window to record one app, like your code editor.

Can I show my face in the video?

Yes, in Chrome or Edge. Turn on Include camera and you'll appear in a round bubble in the bottom-left corner, whether you record your entire screen or one app.

Will the floating controls appear in my video?

Only when you record your entire screen, because they sit on top of everything. Choose App window to keep them out of the video.

Which browsers can I use?

Chrome or Edge on a computer, which can do everything. Firefox works too, without the camera bubble or computer audio. Safari isn't supported yet, and on a phone, use your phone's built-in screen recorder instead.

Why does my Mac say screen recording is blocked?

macOS asks for permission the first time. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, turn on your browser, then restart it.

What format are the videos?

MP4 in Chrome and Edge on Windows and Mac. It plays in QuickTime, on Windows, and on phones, and uploads to YouTube. On Linux, on Chromebooks, and in Firefox, you get a WebM file instead, which plays in Chrome, Firefox, and VLC and uploads to YouTube. If you need an MP4, Ethical Tube's free WebM to MP4 converter changes it in your browser without uploading it.
